Eakly was established in March 1902. For the first 20+ years that this town existed, no one could purchase land on it because a plat was never filed for it. Only leases were granted until the 1920s. Even so, the Methodist Church and the Bank of Eakly were able to secure plots of land before the plat was filed. Eakly officially became a town in 1957.
The town of Eakly was a popular location for cotton and peanut farming. The town’s only official newspaper is the Country Connection. Some popular nearby attractions in Caddo County include Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park, Fort Cobb State Park and Liberty Theatre, the oldest continually operating movie theatre in Oklahoma.
